Mostly over it....for now

Ok, I'm mostly over it. Thanks to all you who sucked this along with me.

Tomorrow Mike sees the Radiation Oncologist here in town. Dr Bollenger will be running the radiation portion of treatment. On Monday Mike gets his port (http://www.portadvantage.com/patient/about_implanted_ports.html) if you want to look at it go to this website. He goes to outpatient surgery where Dr Roy will put it in. It will stay in for the duration of this cancer treatment - 8-9 months or longer.

I got to see an actual port the other day. One of my advertising reps for the store has one and let me see and touch it. She says it's the best thing that happened to her with treatment. It doesn't hurt and unless she's getting chemo she doesn't even know it's there. I hope it works out well for Mike.

We should find out tomorrow when the chemo/radiation starts. It will start together and last a total of five weeks. It seems like a long time now but I'm sure it will go fast and we will figure out how to work around Mike's port and continuous pump. They say he'll have a fanny pack to carry it in, which will work out good for me, I won't have to carry my purse!

I'm guessing everything will finally get going next week. We'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, jump on the blog, give us a "howareya or a that sucks". We'll leave the light on!

Peaceout
Karen

I am glad to hear that the treatment will soon be underway. It will be good to be actually fighting to slay that ugly dragon. A sense of helplessness has got to just wear you down.

Love and prayers coming your way.

Hello Mike and Karen- This is Terry- Ron and I biked with you both and Elaine on Sunday- sending good thoughts your way. Yes- this sucks- Ron had major prostrate cancer surgery 3 years ago- then after a year had to do the radiation thing- we have been there and wish you all the best- it's a hard one- Ron really hated people that said their cancer was a gift- what the F---K is that???

Thanks Terry and Ron! We had a great time biking with you...or well behind you as the case may be. It's clear you get it and we deeply appreciate that. Cancer does suck and Ron's cancer sucks.

On another note: EK says you are both artists, maybe someday you would show us what you do? We'd like that!

Peace
Karen

Sorry, have to do this as anonymous, can't get it to work any other way. You know who I am anyway. Join me for coffee, probable not as strong as Mikes but its good and hot and thanks for the kind words rom you and Mike also.

Now, at last, positive action, forward progress, something is going to happen With the new port will that be 'any port in the storm'? When Mike gets run down can he use a charger there and carge his batteries? OK, no more guff. You said something about a pump and fanny pack. Will the pump be battery operated or will he have to pump it himself? Guess I should check out the web site yu provided. It all sounds so interesting but the fact remains that the real reason for the usage, the cause of it all really sucks!

Time for piano practice and more coffee now. Keep positive, we are, keep praying, we are as is or group down here. We love you guys!

Terry,

It was good to have coffee with you this morning! It's ok to sign in as Anon'and just sign your name. I'm ok with that.

Well, we don't really understand the pump yet either. Mike gets his port on Monday and we should know later today when it all starts because it is supposed to start on the same day. We will probably know that today.

Welcome back, keep in touch and I love you.
